Rarely is anything a truly new idea. We often need a prompt to inspire our thought process to be creative.
Inspiration for the Oilenco Downhole Profile Gauge came from a DIY hand tool used by tillers to replicate profiles around complicated contours.
During remedial interventions to remedy faulty downhole safety valves, it can be difficult to gauge the progress of descaling treatments or manipulation tools.
The idea for a device to reproduce the recess gap, created by the up and down movement of the flow tube in a downhole safety valve, appeared to be an obvious method to establish how effective any remedial activity had been.
By chance, the Wireline Open Hole Roller system was conceived from an infants toy car. The wooden toy rolled effortlessly inside a cylindrical vessel with the simplest of mechanical principles. By externally mounting rollers across a centraliser blade, downhole drag could be virtually eliminated yet still create the desired stand off from the well bore.
With such simple mechanics and few component parts, the concept allowed adequate space for very robust construction, essential for such harsh environments as open hole logging.
This very simple yet highly effective approach led to the design of the Wireline Open Hole Roller system.
