Safety Valve Tools
The deformation lock open tool was developed to permanently lock open the flow tube of a surface controlled sub-surface safety valve. The tool uses a combination of mechanical & hydraulic operation to full stroke and permanently lock open the TRSV flow tube.
The tool is run on conventional slickline. The tool is run into the safety valve and locates the landing nipple profile. The tool is then lightly jarred down to deactivate the ‘no-go dogs’ and simultaneously activate the flow tube locator dogs below. Tubing pressure is then applied to hydraulically push the tool against the return spring of the flow tube. When the tool locates the landing nipple profile, the hydraulic pressure then forces the deformation dogs into the thin wall of the flow tube.
Tubing pressure is then bled off and the toolstring is picked up to equalise pressure across the tool. Two small opposing indentations to the flow tube are sufficient to permanently retain the flow tube in the down position. The tool is then recovered to surface.
