SIP - Set Indicator Prong
The Set Indicator Prong gives the added reassurance to the operator that the lock in protection sleeve is definitely set in the landing nipple profile.
The SIP is attached on to the bottom of a standard ‘GS’ type pulling tool and is stabbed into the fish neck of the protection sleeve. Once the lock in sleeve is set and the ‘GS’ running tool sheared, the SIP engages the inside of the sleeve and allows a controlled overpull to be observed at surface. This can only be achieved when the protection sleeve is locked into the landing nipple profile. A light upward jar will shear the SIP free from the protection sleeve. If an overpull is not observed, this will indicate the sleeve is not set in the nipple profile and the SIP will recover the entire protection sleeve to surface.
