THE CHALLENGE
A major Norwegian North Sea operator was unable to restore the integrity of their Tubing Retrievable Safety Valve (TRSV) despite multiple attempts. To bring the well back online as quickly as possible, they required a complete insert valve assembly - including the Lock Mandrel, Spacer Extension, Wireline Retrievable Safety Valve (WRSV), and Seal Stacks.
However, due to limited stock and extended lead times, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) was unable to meet the operator’s urgent delivery requirements.
THE SOLUTION
The Oilenco Wireline Retrievable Safety Valve (WRSV) is a self-equalising, flapper type safety valve designed to be installed inside a malfunctioning TRSV to regain wellbore integrity. The valve can be universally adapted to suit any existing TRSV profile with the use of lock mandrels, spacer extensions and seal stacks.
Once the TRSV is locked out and communication to the control line is established, the insert valve assembly can be installed and operated from surface via the existing control line.
Working in close collaboration with our Norwegian partner Archer, Oilenco provided the operator with a complete insert assembly tailored to the 3.813” TRSV profile. Inhouse machining and engineering capabilities meant Oilenco was able to offer a delivery lead time of just three weeks.
To ensure operational flexibility, Oilenco provided both a primary and a backup solution: two insert assemblies featuring different seal stack configurations, to mitigate the risk of damage or irregularities within the existing TRSV seal bore.
VALUE CREATED
Oilenco engineered, manufactured, and tested the complete insert valve assembly in just 16 days - delivered ahead of the originally quoted three-week lead time. The equipment was then shipped directly to Archer’s facility in Norway, ready for offshore mobilisation.
Once on location, the assembly was successfully deployed and pressure-tested, restoring full functionality to the well. The rapid turnaround minimised downtime and enabled production to resume earlier than anticipated.
